Congratulations to Roosevelt, Emerson, Hayes and Lincoln elementary schools on being honored by Gov. Mike DeWine in his new Governor’s Science of Reading Recognition Program, which recognizes schools who have aligned their curriculum with the Science of Reading, embraced professional development for teachers and raised literacy achievement among students. Our four schools were among 47 schools recognized by the governor.

Roosevelt Elementary was recently featured on ideastream's NewsDepth A+ program for our amazing house system that promotes inclusivity, community and school spirit. The Lakewood City Schools and the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation (LREF) have been awarded a $30,000 grant from Howmet Aerospace Foundation that will be dedicated to purchasing 3D printers for our seven elementary STEM classrooms. This is the fourth Howmet grant LREF has received to benefit Lakewood students.

Emily Erker is a newspaper publisher. Emily Erker is in fifth grade. Grown up Emily will be a force to be reckoned with! This petite, well-spoken girl has already published 22 issues of her newspaper, The Sparkle Times, and has hopes of continuing to publish through middle school and high school. Hearing her speak about her operation, she could likely serve as the editor of The Lakewood Times right now!

Congratulations to Roosevelt Elementary, which has won an Ohio PBIS Bronze Recognition Award for 2022! The award is sponsored by the State Support Team for Region 3 and the Ohio PBIS Network. PBIS  Award winners' PBIS efforts were evaluated in the areas of student expectations, behavior and discipline; teacher expectations; faculty, student and family involvement; and evaluation processes. Congratulations to the school’s PBIS team!
